The congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is administered annually by the Department of State. For the year 2019, 50,000 diversity visas will be available. The diversity immigrants will come from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States(Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)).
The state will then select the 50,000 "selectees" via computerized random drawing(a lottery) from the applicants. Diversity visas are distributed among six geographic regions and no single country may receive more than seven percent of the available DVs in any one year.
